awkward

When you are a stepmom and the 2nd wife-there are bound to be run ins with the EX. I don't like "run-ins" with the ex. Example: We were out with some friends on Saturday morning, getting some yummy treats at great harvest. All is going great....until who should walk in?? The ex,her spouse and their child. Seriously???? I know that we live in a small town-but do we all have to end up at the same place? Seriously!! Needless to say it was awkward. But hubby and I just ignored them and went about enjoying our time with our friends. I have had to learn for the sake of my own sanity that I cannot allow her to be what I think about on a daily basis. I think it so important that as the stepmom/wife you create your identity and find your spot where you are comfortable in this strange relationship. For me that meant making the decision that I just had to view her as some random person...and that I would not allow her to dictate my life. I am not a doormat. And to any of you other stepmoms out there. You are NOT a doormat. Don't allow yourself to obbsess over what she was like.what she is doing and how she does things. Why do you care? Your husband didn't like her-why do you need too? It's hard I know, but eventually gets easier. And if you do run into an awkward situation with the ex. Don't cower-be confident and brave you will feel empowered!!!!
